Description
Consultant, Ethiopia based, to establish options for local production of wind turbine components and assembly supporting domestic market development
Achievements:
-
Objectively reviewed possible domestic providers (technical, operations, logistics) of welded and cast parts
-
Concluded that domestic sourcing was not realistic to achieve cost and quality and that the required investment was beyond scope of the promoters
As Interim Manager, I undertook a review of achievable options for wind turbine assembly in Ethiopia.
I made an in-country review of potential suppliers and industrial partners for elements that are typically sourced domestically.
I developed an options plan with costs, timescales and risks and then developed detailed plans for the few areas where localisation was a reality. The general recommendation was that there was insufficient industrial infrastructure to support any real localisation.
