Interim Manager commissioning and closing out on a £50M autonomous cart baggage handling system (total business: 165 people, £68M turnover); 2nd of 3 concurrent assignments


  • Phase 1 and 2 (90 carts) passed client confidence and brought into live traffic operation (key contractual milestone)

  • Commission of remaining phases (further 90 carts) developed ready for integration with live phases

  • The result was that when the final phase 4 completed construction, system integration could start immediately

I pulled together and managed a diverse range of close out activities, including low level commissioning in Phase 3, documentation and compliance.

I managed trouble shooting to address the myriad issues causing system instability and provided additional operational support as short term mitigation in Phases 1 and 2 as they went into live traffic.

I engaged more resource in Phases 1 and 2 to ensure emerging technical issues were resolved and then cut and pasted this approach the across the project to avoid repeating the scenario.

I brought intense, hour by hour focus to low level commissioning and brought in specialist resourcing as new technical issues emerged in Phase 3 in order to maintain the programme.

I managed the consequences of Covid 19 on site to ensure the project did not stop.
